ANNUAL MEETING: MARCH 9, 2004 8:15 PM

The unique feature of Township government is the power of the electors, not just to elect officials, but to have a major voice in the decision making process. The opportunity to be heard and be counted is at the Annual Meeting. The 2005 Township taxes will be determined by the budget that is adopted.

Several factors will influence the budget this year. There have been state cuts in local government aid. The Town Board has worked around the 2003 and 2004 cuts but cannot easily do it for 2005. Another proposal is the rebuilding of 80th Street (Strawberry Short Cut). Over the past several years the budgets have included money to be set aside for the project. $190,000 was used for our share of the joint project with the City of Annandale to do the portion from Highway 24 to Conservation Club Road. Now, the fund has built up and the Board will ask for authority to borrow the balance of the money to do the project this summer. The budget amount in 2004 is $100,000. That amount budgeted for each year from 2005-2009 will cover the repayment of the loan. It is a lot of money, but the cost of maintaining that road each year is very high. This will only happen with the approval of the electors attending the meeting. Any elector may bring up items of business from the floor.

TOWNSHIP ELECTION

The polls will be open from Noon to 8 PM, March 9, 2004 at the Corinna Town Hall. Absentee Ballots may be obtained from the Town Clerk until Monday, March 8, until 5 PM.

One supervisor is to be elected. Two people have filed: Peter Flatten and Bill Lieb, incumbent.

CORINNA WEB SITE

The township web site has been up and running for over a year. (www.corinnatownship.com) Many of you have used it to see the Agenda for the coming meeting. It is posted the Monday before each meeting. The unofficial minutes and newsletters are also posted. Work is being done to up-grade the site. The new site will have pictures, copies of the land use plan and copies of the more requested ordinances. If the new site has a different address, it will be available through the current address. Keep checking.

JUNK AMNESTY

Junk Amnesty Day has been set for July 31, 2004. Time will be from 8 AM to 1 PM. More information will be coming in the July Corinna News.

NEW TRUCK PURCHASE

A 2004 Chevrolet 1-Ton Work Truck with a diesel engine has been purchased by the Township. It is large enough to pull the bobcat trailer. This truck will be more economical than having to use the big trucks for routine maintenance in the township. Also, by reducing the miles put on the plow trucks, the useful life on each truck should be extended by at least one year. This truck should prove a money saver over its life.

BURNING PERMITS

Burning permits are required for open burning unless there is 3 inches of snow cover. Permits may be obtained from: Barry and Denise Schultz, 274-5517, Bill and Pearl Lieb, 963-6202, and the Annandale City Hall, 274-3055. Call before making a trip.
